I can't remember when this started. My Dell C1765NF printer started to print gray instead of black. I had tried different suggested solutions found on the Internet and most of them didn't working. The solution finally works for me involves changing the "type" of the driver and changing a setting in the printing preference as following.
To get my printer back to normal, I change the "type" of the printer driver from type 4 to type 3. I may be wrong, but the type 3 seems to use the old application model instead of the new App (Store) model. Once you have reverted back to the old interface, you should be able to find "Image Adjustment Mode" option under the graphics tab. Set this to ICM Adjustment, and things should back to normal.
